Halflings

Since the unification of the Kingdom, Halflings have called Novaria the land of opportunity.  Of the three main branches of Halflings, only the Hairfoot and Tallfellow have a sizeable population in Novaria, while most of their Stout brethren remained in the Hinlands.

Hairfoot complexions range from pale to dark, curly hair from blonde to black and eyes of brown or hazel.

Origins
Most Hairfoot Halflings in Novaria come from trading families. As they traveled from town to town, individuals would settle among the humans as craftsmen or hire themselves out for less savory employment.

Views
Hairfoot Halflings are most comfortable settled among humans. They prefer Latinian lands due to access to the Latinian penchant for luxury, which the Hairfoot are eager to share in. The Clasbron lifestyle is generally too spartan and the Futhark lifestyle too rugged for most Hairfoot Halflings to enjoy, though a few find their niche among humans of those cultures. Hairfoot Halflings are rare among the Dwarves, whom they feel are always watching them too closely. They are also uncomfortable living amidst the lofty lifestyle of the Elves. While Hairfoot Halflings generally hold little animosity towards humanoids, they usually find them a bit frightening. Though they can hold their own among Goblins and Kobolds, they usually give Orcs and Hobgoblins a wide berth.

Culture
These Halflings construct their single-level cottage homes among human settlements and have adapted quite well to life among the tall folk, though they often cluster themselves together in their own neighborhoods. Though they often defer to the current governing authority, it is not uncommon for the most experienced Halfling in the neighborhood to be regulated to a leadership position.

Though Hairfoot males generally perform most of the physical labor and the females most domestic chores, the gender division is usually split down the middle. Females tend to be the figurehead of the family, but males and females both assume leadership roles within the community. Hairfeet tend to marry for life with one partner and will often house an extended family of several generations under one roof.

Hairfoot Halflings worship Yondalla as their primary deity, but also pay regular homage to the other deities in the Halfling Pantheon. Hairfeet build permanent temples to their deities in the communities they settle and hold regular worship services for the community. Hairfoot temples also serve as community meeting halls and sponsor community celebrations.
