Humanoids
Since Tiel's rebellion, an influx of humanoids has come within Novaria's borders seeking hire as mercenaries and regulars in special military units. The majority of these humanoids delight in imposing their authority on the masses, while others just enjoy spreading general
mayhem. A select few of these monsters have left the path of evil and fight against the evil
caused by others of their kind. Though they may hold respectable positions in society, humanoids are still seen by the general populace as a blight on the kingdom.

Description
Kobolds are small, scaly doglike humanoids. Kobolds have scaly hides that range from dark, rusty brown to a rusty black. Their eyes glow like a bright red spark and they have two small horns ranging from tan to white.
Origin
Kobolds originally hail from the Helvetian mountains on the continent of Teutonia. Many clans found their way to Novaria as stowaways aboard merchant vessels. They often work as messengers and scouts for the King's armies, though their knack for sorcery makes them useful to any mercenary party.
Views
Being rather weak humanoids, kobolds are consistently trying to prove to the larger races just how strong and powerful they are. Kobolds will suck up to Latinians if they think it will get them some scraps from the table, but will not hesitate to hamstring them if they get too
condescending. Kobolds tend to avoid the Clasbron and Futhark unless traveling in gangs and the human is weak. Kobolds despise Dwarves, as they often vie for the same metal veins and living
space. Kobolds are cautious around Elves, knowing their reputation for being deadly archers and lack of patience for kobold kind. Kobolds see halflings almost as equals, sometimes trading and sometimes raiding Tallfellow caravans and Stout
homesteads. Kobolds are not fond of Goblins, though they will work with them if the need arises and quite possibly eliminate them when they lose their usefulness. Kobolds are fearful of Orcs and their unpredictable natures, never knowing whether they would be appreciated as allies or
dinner. Kobolds respect Hobgoblins when they have to, although they would rather be the ones commanding the other humanoids.
Culture
Most Kobolds reside in caves in the Crystal or Cymbrian mountain ranges. They keep their lairs fairly well kept, using debris to serve as barricades or in one of the many traps spread throughout the
lair. Each cave system is home to a clan of Kobolds, headed by a chieftain whose leadership is rarely questioned unless some outside influence interferes.
Females are generally regarded as property among the Kobolds. Kobold females are often traded among the males as commodities. Female Kobolds raise the children, prepare the meals and ensure the lair is properly
kept. Kobolds typically accept only one partner as a spouse, but often keep several concubines. These concubines are subservient to the wife of the household. Kobold males usually try to sell or trade a difficult wife for something more valuable.
The Kobold's chief deity is Kurtulmak, god of war and mining. They also worship Gaknulak, god of trickery. Each Kobold clan has at least one cleric in the service of Kurtulmak who serves as a counselor to the
chieftain. Lesser clerics serve the chief cleric, though the chief cleric's entourage typically includes several adepts as well. Usually one of the lesser clerics is favored by the chief cleric to be his successor, though it is not uncommon for these successors to be assassinated by those who disagree with the chief cleric's
opinion. Kobold clergy rarely includes females, and those females who take up the
religious mantle never make it into positions of power. Many Kobolds inhabiting Latinian lands have also turned to the worship of the Olympian
deity Hermes and those in Futhark lands admire the doctrines of Asgardian
deity Loki.
