Balder
is the beautiful god and is favored among the Aesir. His death is foreshadowed by the celebration of Yule, where as he is
slain (unwittingly) by his blind brother, Hoder, yet comes back from Hel’s
abode to rule after Ragnarok.
The teachings of Balder’s clerics revolve around aspects of the returning light. Sometimes, they say, it is better accept defeat at one time so you may be victorious when it matters more later. They also focus on putting to death the things that make one spiritually ugly so they may become more beautiful from within through that ordeal. Though outward beauty is cherished, Balder’s precepts encourage people to find and express their inner beauty through art, craftsmanship or performance. Greeting others with a smile will show them that you believe yourself to be beautiful.
Balder’s clerics like to inspire people to make the world around them a more beautiful place whether by creating a beautiful piece of artwork or by simply showing kindness to a neighbor or lending a helping hand. When a village has been destroyed or lives otherwise need rebuilding, clerics who honor Balder are usually present with a sympathetic ear or directing people on how to make the village better than it was before. Baldur’s clerics wear cassocks of silver fabric so that they can be easily recognized and sought after if the need arrises. |
