Hermod
serves as both messenger and diplomat for the Asgardian deities. He guides
departed souls not destined for Valhalla to Hel's abode. It will be Hermod
who bargains with Hel for Balder's return to Asgard.
Dogma
Hermod's
faithful believe in staying physically fit so that they are capable of
undertaking whatever service is asked of them. They also believe in
volunteering for difficult tasks that no one else is willing to attempt. They are encouraged to be loyal to their employers and to be respectful and
courteous in their dealings with others. They perform any task they
undertake with alacrity for they reason that a deed quickly done well allows for
more deeds to be done.
Clergy
Churches
over which a cleric of Hermod presides are often used as town meeting places. Town officials can rely on the clergy to disseminate any news to
all the local faithful. Hermod's clerics open their church doors to assist
travelers and official envoys. Their sermons often take the form of tales
were a hero undertakes a daunting task out of loyalty to their master or the people. Bravery, honor and haste are always major themes. Many of
Hermod's clerics are itenerant and can be seen traveling the roads in their
light blue cassocks.
