Hermes is the cunning and whimsical messenger of the Olympian pantheon. A practiced rogue himself, Hermes oversees both the
legitimate and illicit sides of commerce. He
is a patron to travelers and practitioners of beneficial magic.
Dogma
Followers
of Hermes all agree that the main doctrine of their deity is the accumulation of
wealth, though several factions disagree on what means may be used to accomplish this. Hermes abhors violent means to these ends and encourages guile and
trickery as suitable methods for bettering ones economic status.
Clergy
Clerics
of Hermes are constantly on the move. Though
wayside chapels have been established for the weary traveler, these shrines are
only staffed by those clerics whose travels have brought them by. Hermes’ clergy wear light blue traveling cloaks with silver trim and
carry staves upon their person. Most
clerics’ staves are made to resemble the winged Caduceus carried by their deity.
Clerics
of Hermes often serve as messengers between the different churches of the
Olympian pantheon. They see to the
fair balance of scales among merchants and hire their services to travelers and
peddlers as escorts, interpreters and healers. Many have ties to some thieves’ guild or another, marking themselves as
founts of information on the criminal underworld.
