Hestia
is the keeper of the eternal fire that burns on Olympus. She takes no part in Olympian politics and does not have a seat among the
12 Olympians. She is a quiet yet
watchful deity and while she may seem reserved on the outside there is always a
twinkle in her eyes.
Dogma
Hestia’s
followers hold that the house is a sacred place. Her clerics teach respect and care for the family and that rest and play
are just rewards for those who work diligently not only for themselves, but for
the good of their loved ones. They also teach appreciation for all good things
that have happened in their lives and to honor the other Olympian deities.
Clergy
Hestia’s
clergy have no churches in their honor. Every
church dedicated to Zeus or Hera has a fire that is tended by a cleric of Hestia
that is the source of fire for sacrifices. Hestia’s clerics wear robes that
are soot gray in color as not to attract much attention to themselves while
honoring the position of their deity. Individual
families often erect shrines to Hestia around their own hearths. Clerics making
house visits perform services in these shrines. Her clerics also counsel those
who have questions about family life and bless new homes for health and safety. Hestia does not have a position among the Cardinals.
Monks
who follow Hestia run monasteries that double as wayside inns for weary travelers. The monks in the
monasteries are always chaste and celibate, though monks who marry practice
their arts at home in order to better protect their families.
